In my non-Presbyterian church we have a small elder ship of the pastor (male), 3 other men and 2 women. Our church (Church of Christ) has always allowed women elders.

We are small - 40 members. There are a few men who have been elders but are no longer able to exercise the ministry through old age and illness. I honestly do not believe we have any more male members qualified to be an elder. Of course we pray that the Lord would send us such men.

The two women elders are qualified in every way, do not see their sex as relevant in any way, always saw their husband as spiritual leader in the home. We could not fulfill our constitutional elder number requirements without them.

But my theological position is similar to David’s. Nonetheless, it will never be debated in the church. We are very conservative theologically on every other possible dimension.
